A little about us......

Hello, My name is Liz and my husband is Billy we are live in the northeast corner of Connecticut.  We’ve been married for 3 years have two beautiful little girls, Bethany who is a two and a half and Emma one and a half.  I grew up all my life with animals, but never fiber animals, we had horses, and steers, and I also work a little with dairy cows in 4H and in collage. However, I have been working with fiber all my life.  I’ve known how to knit and crochet since I was little, but I only started spinning a little over three years ago and fell in love with it the day that I started and I was good at it too.  I was able to make a pair of socks out of the first yarn that I spun (I promised my husband a pair of wool socks if he bought me a wheel).  Once I started spinning the first thing that I thought about was how I can find a way to do this for a living.  Then along came the discovery of the cottage fiber mills and the wheels started turning.  I tried thinking about all the pro’s and con’s of starting a mill and there was always way more pro’s than con’s. The number one pro was that I could combine my love for fiber as well as for animals.  It was in my field of expertise being an animal science major and it is also a good family business that we could all eventually be involved in.

So how did it all come together?  Well, once I discovered the cottage mill industry and started looking into the different company’s. I kept thinking about it and researching the business, and then came my chance. On January 22, 2007 I went to work as usual and they had BIG announcements that day.  We weren’t really that nervous because they always say these kind of things. We weren't to worried because our group rather safe, or at least that is what we thought. They announced that they were moving the cancer group to California.  We would either be laid off or placed into a new position.  After the shock wore off the next thing that came to mind here is my chance at opening a mill. The time came to make a hard decision and some people probably think I am crazy, but I decided to take a chance on myself and my family.  Not only did I want to start the mill, but I also found out that I was pregnant with our second child.  So here we are now a year and half going strong.  I swear everything really does happen for a reason.

I am also so lucky that we live where we do.  This area is going to be great for starting a fiber mill.  Not just for the variety of animals, but because of the rich history the area has.  There are many old woolen mills in the area and our hope is to be able to find space in one of these mills to serve as our new cottage mill.
